So my girlfriend and I are making 5 years soon, and I want to take her to New Orleans for the day and take her somewhere nice that night to eat and celebrate. Obviously, they have the french quarter and city park, but what would make it a memorable day? Neither one of us have been down to the quarter so we don't know what to expect. So can y'all help me out?? I need some suggestions on where to eat and what to do. Not necessarily a fancy day, but a fun day.

Thanks!

Spending the night or not? How willing are yall to walk?

Also, when is this trip? The St Charles Streetcar is down, but will be back soon. That is always a nice thing to do.

Depends on what you're looking for.

The Quarter is immensely more manageable for day drinking. If I'm going to do the Quarter, I'd rather it be for that. That said, the best times I've had in New Orleans were staying far away from there. If you've never been, I'm not saying don't go check it out -- but don't be afraid that you're missing out if you don't go down there.

If you ARE going down there, Sylvain is a fantastic restaurant. Would make a good lunch or dinner. If you're looking to go super high end on the dinner, I'd do Sylvain for lunch and do Doris Metropolitan for dinner. Both are in the Quarter -- they're actually across the street from each other.

Just since you said you don't know what to expect -- the Quarter is dirty But I'm sure she'd enjoy seeing Jackson Square and the Cathedral. It can be fun, especially if you've never been.

If you're willing to spend the day in another area of town (or even just spend half the day elsewhere), your SO will most assuredly love Uptown NOLA. A lot of people enjoy strolling Magazine and shopping. Tons of awesome restaurant options there that I'm sure will be mentioned in this thread.

how old are you?

you sound like a young baw.

For the FQ, walk down bourbon once or twice, check it out. But there are a lot of cool little bars, restaurants, and art galleries on the outskirts. You can probably spend a day just wandering around doing that.

id skip the WW2 museum, unless yall are an old couple that wants to waste a vacation day on that.
