Redfish and blue tails. What really causes it?

Has biologists actually come up with a reason yet?
I've heard: it's bc they are feeding due to tidal changes
It has to do with its age.
Salinity of the water.
Does anyone have any knowledge as to what's the main reason? We caught a couple yesterday around the reefs in southwest pass and every one had blue tails. We caught them during the tidal change.
And as a side note- I've never caught so many black tips. They were everywhere. The water was the cleanest I've seen down there in years

The blue actually is from them as juveniles in less saline waters. As they age the blue slowly disappears from the caudal fin.

I've heard multiple reasons, one being when they are feeding on shrimp and crabs in skinny water. I believe it has something to do with age and salinity.

The feeding thing is horseshite. I've caught reds with or without a blue tail that had belly full of bait.

I've caught them a few times in different conditions. No idea what causes it.

It's when a male fish isn't gettin' any secks from the females. Duh.
