What made season 1 great was that it was in a different, interesting setting with unique characters in a familiar plot.

The crime drama aspect is never going to be new. But if you give me a setting like the Badlands of North Dakota or the coast of Maine or the Everglades, I'll be interested.

Exactly this. Louisiana was one of the characters of season 1. Without that special setting and very good actors, season 2 is just a confused storyline with overwrought dialogue. It makes no sense to film a season in LA.
