With training, that's pretty easily done.
I'm sure he was in Condition One or Zero, only difference being safety on or off. Plus, it was a close shot so target acquisition would be instantaneous.

If he can react that quickly why not just take one step back away from the car and completely remove himself from harms way? Seems more feasible to me in two seconds.
