The problem with trucks is not the towing capacity. It's the ability of the truck to be able to even handle that load. Why do you need a heavy pulling truck in a mid sized?

You don't. That's why it's dumb. It's too big, costs too much, and makes too much power.

If they'd make a more value-minded rig they'd sell all they could make. See Volkswagen's value edition TDI. Put the best drivetrain in the base model vehicle

You don't. But folks want diesels. A status symbol now.
