Seriously. This could be a cool thread about science and the metaphysical, but instead there's a lot of the traditional reactionary preemptive existence/nonexistence of God BS.

OK let's do that. So if they can manipulate brainwaves to create a religious experience, then what's next? Could they induce pure bliss? If we could create the technology and make it widely available, maybe that would be a more meaningful existence to the individual than any external pursuit could provide. Maybe we all get addicted to happiness and just quit doing life.

Could be that "great filter" that always comes up in the Fermi paradox threads.

why?

Bums on the street doing PCP probably claim to be God all the time, I doubt Christians use that as proof that God exists.

A drug helmet that makes you hallucinate isn't going to provide any proof for the religious that God exists.
