An admission from Palmer...

"I had no idea that the lion I took was a known, local favorite, was collared and part of a study until the end of the hunt," Palmer said, according to CBS. "I deeply regret that my pursuit of an activity I love and practice responsibly and legally resulted in the taking of this lion."

The group then removed the collar and tried destroy it...

CNN

Again...he has a criminal record for hunting big game in the states in part because he lied to federal authorities about where he killed a bear, twice.

I'm not buying his story that he didn't see the collar before he released.
