My retirement goals are set up to assume no SS payouts.

I also think you're trolling, but people pay into those two systems, so they are low on the hypocrisy scale.

they're not paying for their own retirement/future medical care. they're paying for the recipients' retirement/medical care

social security and medicare are welfare programs. they are not "investment" programs individualized. if they were, then you could monetize your SS/medicare and we could all stop paying and there would be funds to fund the current outlays for current recipients. since we cannot, then it is a welfare plan.
