As one scout told me when my oldest kid was considering colleges, go where you are wanted, not just a place where you want to play. Maybe Zardon doesn't feel wanted. As others have noted, we don't know how the conversation went down. May Coach Mainieri said some things that left Zardon less than confident about his future playing opportunities on an every day basis.
So is PM at fault for telling a kid the reality of the situation? Didn't he tell Foster he wasn't guaranteed anything last year? The problem so may kids have these days is they've been brought up to believe they're "special" players by their parents, and in some cases, travel-ball coaches. If they want to go somewhere where they can play everyday, great. But let's not act like they're getting screwed over.

quote:Are you really comparing those two situations? Foster had zero options.

I don't disagree with anything you said and, in fact, strongly believe a Coach owes it to a kid to give them an honest assessment of their prospects with the team so the player can make an educated choice as to whether to stay with the team or seek greener pastures. However, you are presuming the conversation went down just as described by Mainieri and I not willing to make that assumption.
