I believe that Ipads/tablets that parents give to their children are bad for several reasons. First, it is mostly done by parents who don't know the limitations to which the child should use them, and in turn end up giving it to their child to appease them bc they aren't good parents. Second, I think it limits their physical development and creativity. Kids these days only want to play games on ipads/video game consoles (much like the older generation too). They are great tools when used properly, but can be very bad habits. I see my nieces and nephews becoming so dependent on them it sickens me. I am about to be a first time parent and my wife and I seriously talked about this and that we need to limit the amount of time we use our phones/tablets in front of our child so they don't try to emulate us.

congrats. kids are all at once the greatest and worst thing that will ever happen to you. I have 2 (1 & 2 yrs old). Hard but awesome. My 2 year old just told me she loved me for the first time the other day. Best feeling in the world.
