Most top American beer lists lean heavily towards IPAs and higher gravity stouts/porters. Rarity gets you a few points in high demand markets. You'd be hard pressed to find most of those beers taking up shelf space.

Hops or roasty grains + alcohol - supply = high score

This is somewhat flawed as well due to the fact that BA has a lot of beers on the site that don't have official BA ratings assigned to them. I don't know if a beer has to have a certain number of reviews or a certain distribution area in order to get an official rating or what.

All of the Arkansas beers I listed have reviews with scores (and a higher average review than the one they picked) on the site, but they don't have an official BA score.

Basically, they went with a Diamond Bear (easily the worst brewery in the state) because their beers are the only ones with official BA ratings.
