8 is the perfect amount. You don't need 10,000 people at one position.
2 as starters, 2-3 as backups/rotation, 1-2 as emergency backups/rotation, 2 as redshirts.

LSU has plenty of players at DL, just very little production out of them. Outside of Lacatoure, the vaunted DL class of 2013 has done virtually nothing on a team that has been desparate for DL help for the last 2 years.
Hopefully Orgeron can get some production out of these guys (Gilmore, Herron, etc). If he can't this season (for many their third in the program) then I think it would be safe to say that 2013 DL class was, for the most part, a complete bust
