I don't see any problem with this if this is an alternative to the gift registry.

Never been on one, but I hear they vary WILDLY in price based on your accommodations and duration of the trip.

Who gives a shite?

I actually think it's a really good idea. Especially for couples that are getting married later on in life and already have all of the household items they would need.

Point of a gift registry is for a young couple to have things they will need for their new home, and eventual family.
Registering for a jet ski ride and then getting home and having nothing in their house is asinine and sorry but trashy.

So your opinion as the gift giver is more import at than spending the same amount of money on what the couple would prefer?
Seems like the issue is you.
How do you know what's in their home?

With more people living together before marriage now more than ever in the history of mankind, don't you think it more wasteful to ask for another coffee maker after you have 2?
With the wealth of Americans as it is, who the hell doesn't own a microwave?
The worst I ever felt was making a gift registry for my wedding and asking for a third microwave from my friends and family.

So what if it is not for a young couple?

This is simple, don't ask for things you already have.

Nothing wrong with it really. Personal choice. With more and more people getting married later in life...chances are both of you lived on your own and already have enough stuff for a home. Also if you are getting married in your late 20s to 30s, chances are you are more than likely paying for most or all of your own wedding so money for a honeymoon is a bonus. I know many people that went this route for their wedding. They also still had a small, traditional registry for those that didn't want to contribute to the honeymoon fund.

Didn't notice this was you posting, no sense in wasting any time saying anything else.

some people will never get it.

Interesting... Well, may do this for my next vacation and see how many stupid people I can find to give me money

It seems you have a problem with them asking for something they don't have.

Will you bet getting a dowry from the family of the girl you marry? That used to be a tradition too.

How dumb are you that you 1. Have 2 microwaves and 2. Ask for a 3rd? Jesus.

How dumb are you to say the following:

And isn't the grooms parents supposed to pony up the bill for the honeymoon since the brides parents pay for the wedding? Pretty trashy if you don't have parents to pay for that.
