Not at all. Cole is the definition of replacement player.
He played well for the Pels. He works hard on defense, but he's a small guard and he is not Beverly. I would imagine people rate him highly because he shot significantly better in New Orleans in 28 games than he did in 274 games in Miami. Maybe his shooting will normalize and stay at this rate. I doubt it though. I'm not a fan of him "running" an offense. That he is comfortable off ball is a big plus, though. And he's been there before, so that does count for something.
I get the worry about Holiday and Gordon and their health. But, unless my medical advisors don't think Holiday can overcome his injury, I don't plan around that. To me, Cole doesn't rate highly enough to make that much of a difference if there is injury. You're screwed playing whoever that guy is regardless. I'd rather take a gamble on an impact wing (that many thought would get 8 figures this summer before being shipped to Houston- many also think that deal and his subsequent burial on the depth chart was Hinkie payback for not signing the 4 year deal he gives all 2nd picks).
I go for position of need over the 5th guard on the roster.
Plus, we have no idea what price point either guy is looking for.

+1, you can always find a backup PG on the level of Cole they are all over the league. We're talking about a PG with a career PER of 9.0, even a guy like say a Brian Roberts is at 13.3 and nobody here wanted the team to keep him. PER doesn't measure defense well you say..That's fine Cole is better defensively but Roberts is better offensively.

i'm gonna chalk up calling those of us who are realistic about cole "retards" to the trauma of watching austin rivers/john salmons/luke babbit/gal mekel/nate wolters/etc trying to play basketball last year
it's ok though, PTSD is common after witnessing that which cannot be unseen
