Have you ever had a run in with a poacher?

If so what happened?
For me nothing too major just the occasional person attempting to hunt across a fenceline.

Not poachers but some people mudding on our land that resulted in thousands in damages. My grandma caught them the guy cried in court.

Pick on halves, that's the rule.

We have a family pond that was over run with grass for years. Turns out there was some monster bass in there. The neighborhood next to it realized this and I couldn't keep them out. Some would try to be friends. Some wanted to fight. Some went home, waited till I was in the boat then stole everything out of the back of my truck. Some had the nerve to show up the next day "looking for their sunglasses" with their pole in hand. People are absolutely nuts.

Yeah back before we sold the big place I'd run some off every year, usually by asking nicely and when that didn't work I'd call the sheriff right in front of them and calmly tell him I was going to shoot some trespasser and he needed to send a unit and an ambulance out to pick em up. If I caught em again I let a couple go over their heads or found their vehicles and had em towed.

Our neighbors old ranch hand was busted selling hunts on their place, he had open access to our ranch so chances are he was doing the same on ours. We had a lot of big deer on camera that year that disappeared but who knows.
We thought we would have a lot of trouble with the influx of oilfield workers when the Eagleford blew up, but surprisingly haven't had any issues there that we know about.

Yup. Don't ask questions. Take a picture of them and their license plate. Let the law handle the rest. It becomes a hassle when people are consistently trespassing and poaching.

3 times hunting at our camp and our friend's camp that is right besides ours and 2 times fishing
Each time is a pretty good story and each is different, the common denominator is that each in his own way felt somehow entitled to poach...
Eta- oh and they we're all in the same income bracket except for the state trooper and his son I found in my stand years ago. But then again, cops don't make much so he may have been in the low earner bracket...

When I was 10-12 years old, my grandpa and me caught a group of people hoghunting on horseback on our land.
Come top find out all of them were from out of town or state except one local who was providing "guided" hog hunts.
Grandpa explained to the local that the next time we caught him on our land he would become a permanent resident.

All the time. It's like pulling teeth to get a game warden to actually do anything. They'll show up, talk a big game, then rarely follow through. In their defense, they typically don't get a lot of help from local DA's making charges stick. Most of our incidents happen in East TX (Newton, Jasper, Tyler Co. Area). I really think that me being from out of state makes them want to side with natives.

We are in Walker County. Short of catching a poacher in the act it is hard to get the local game warden to do anything

A couple of "hunting accidents" will get to patrol more
