I'm coming to the area this weekend and would love any advice you are willing to share. I'll be pretty mobile on land and willing to rent a kayak if need be. Probably targeting reds and specs but open to anything.
Also starter tips for flounder gigging or scalloping appreciated.

I'm currently watching the firework show in Cape San Blas.
Going scalloping tomorrow. Caught a few bluefish and lady fish in the surf on vortex shad this afternoon. Need to go fish the bay side. Looks like it may have some good fish over there.

Can you fish in St. Joe Bay? Been down here two weeks and that's mainly what I've done. We've loaded up on speckled trout fishing the sand edges on large patches of grass. My dad landed a 26 inch speck today. In regards to surf fishing, we've seen a few catfish and sharks caught, but nothing too impressive.
From everyone we've talked with, scalloping has been a lot tougher this year than the past few. Last year it was easy to fill a sack up, but this year they're hard to find. I think in total I've probably scalloped for around 3 hours this trip and only caught about 100.

I'm willing to go pretty much anywhere the fish are. What's the spec bite on?

All on pinfish and porgies.

No artificials?
I may wake up in the morning and fish bay side instead of the gulf side.

Nope. I net the bait near Eagle Harbor and we're good for the day.

Reds on south shore of bay. launch at kayak launch near lighthouse at S end of bay. Trout in major sand guts around blacks island. Troll mirrodines to locate schools, or get out there in the dark and chunk top waters. Bull reds on flats near inter coastal mouth at mexico beach at night near the big bridge; chunk top waters

If scallop fishing is open, I'd do that. Port St. Joe is one of the best places to do that. It's a blast.
ETA: The bay is where its at, not at the beach where you will be. Sorry. And, I wouldn't take a yak across that pass, there are tons of idiot boaters there.

Not going to help you now but we went to St George last October and will be going again this October. I caught a bunch of whiting off the beach and one pompano. Went down to the cut and caught a bunch of flounder.
Off the beach I was using shrimp and at the cut I was using live bait that I caught in the cast net.

The fishing pier at St. George is great for numbers of large fish, but most are sharks and catfish.

Thanks for the great info and pictures everyone. I'm gonna try to load the cooler up with scallops and reds this weekend how do the specs eat?

I caught all my specks in the south end of the bay in anywhere from 2.5-5.5 feet of water. We didn't catch any reds though. I actually have never caught a redfish in st joe bay.

I managed a permit and couple bluefish in the surf. Didn't fish bag side.

you don’t go to there for Reds imo.
Plenty of trout... look up trout almandine; cook em like that.
