If you are worried about insurance cost...it will be much cheaper to have the kid drive a 3rd car (4 cylinder accord or camry), you get a moderately nice car (relatively new Acura TL) and your wife a moderately nice crossover or SUV...and you still should be under $100K for all three cars.
If it is cheaper for a 16 year old to drive a Macan S, than a 4-cylinder 3rd car...then you have the wrong insurance.

For the kid to have a 4-cyl Mustang, his insurance was going to be $5,600/yr.
For the kid to have my wife's '08 Volvo XC90, it was going to be $1,400/yr.
For the kid to be a 3rd driver on a '16 Macan S and '16 Mustang GT Premium, $1.200/yr.
I probably drive my Vette around 150-200 miles/month. I really don't need 3 cars.
