I see it as a fine companion piece to the novel, but it just doesn't work that great as a movie. It's long and still manages to feel rushed. The Comedian is the most interesting character in the movie, and it hurts when he's not on screen. In the end, Snyder didn't want to make a movie that existed as its own thing, with its own identity. He made the book and it only half works.
