They won't. He saw the forensic files episode where a KILLER was tracked down like this when with a burner phone because they got him on video buying the phone. Most of us notice the difference between these two cases.

I don't watch Forensic Files... but from my TV viewing experiences I would bet these guys could solve the mystery.
