My bad. I been MIA from this thread for a while. Getting geared up for season really soon though.
So here is a pic for some of you that were looking to get into fly fishing and/or fly tying. These are my core flies that I always have at least 5 of every time I go out. Plenty of times they'll be hot on something else but I consider this my core year-round. The exception is the 1 dry fly sitting below the buggers.
(Bmax - the dry fly is a replica of one I bought in boulder at a fly shop. They literally called it the boulder creek fly. It's treated me well in other places but is only in this pic so I didn't have to upload 2 pics.)
As previously mentioned the buggers I have best luck with aren't really bushy in the body and have shorter tails than any I ever see in stores. Green and brown are best for me but I also use black and few other colors. The chartreuse one is the green weenie - my go to for stubborn trout on really warm days. I admit this is kind of considered a trash fly but I don't care when i'm sweating like crazy and casting all day at picky fish. The one above it is my version of what's known as "walt's worm" = I call it Heisenberg. So generic and plain looking but it crushes trout. I have a different version of Heisenberg that I tie tons of lead underneath for dropping into deep pools. Few nymphs up top and a few midges down/right on the bottom round it out.
