Isn't U-High's application period for the upper grades September-March of the previous year? So if she's trying to enter in August, it seems highly unlikely that she would be able to get in, if spots even become available.

Maybe is she's around a 30 on the act and agrees to take it again and push for the 29-30 range so they get the score.

This! Many years ago, a student was accepted by U High as the end of his Junior year. I remember the last day of his Jr. year, a U High van picked him up from our school to take him there for some orientation workshop and to meet other juniors. His parents had a friend who was tight w/ the Governor at the time and lobbied on his behalf. He was accepted and this all happened in May!
Imagine my surprise when August rolled around and he was sitting front and center in my classroom. He told me it was a great school, just not for him. His parents were not very happy because their friend did this for them and then their kid didn't go. He mentioned that is was almost impossible to get into U High as a Senior and his parents' friend was none too happy with his decision.
I laughed and told him if I was his parent, he would have gone to U High.

Had a friend just get his daughter into 5th. Grade and they have been trying for three years. And she had several familiy members who had gone to school there.

U High is for non-Catholics who don't want to move to Ascension Parish. If you really care about your kid learning something, you send them to Episcopal.

Hey, I can't afford to send my kids to Episcopal, just letting you know how it is. But it ain't at U High for learning.

I have a friend who is trying to get her daughter into U High from another private school for just her SENIOR year. I am thinking she's out of her mind. I am not sure she understands the selection process.
Actually, probably not many people are applying that late in a student's academic career (being her senior year and all), so she shouldn't have much competition at all. It's more a matter of some kid in that grade-level who already goes there moving to another city or graduating a year early (none will "drop out" at that school) opening up a slot that she can fill.

I went to Episcopal.
It provides a fantastic education, faculty, facilities, arts programs, coke connects, and college placement.

Tbh, the drug thing is way overblown. There are a handful of incredibly rich and incredibly spoiled kids in each grade that party like they'll never need their own career (which they won't).
It was a fantastic school in every facet. I'm sure there are dickhead kids at every school.
Not saying I didn't smoke pot in high school, but I also made pretty good grades and test scores and have a solid start to my career. They give you every advantage to succeed. I went to Ole Miss for different reasons, as I got into better schools. Lots of elite universities across the country were attended by my classmates.
In fact, we partied hand in hand with the UHigh kids in our class and the friend groups remain intertwined to this day. Very similar groups
Of kids from similar family backgrounds.
