Baseball's weakness is how regional the coverage and attention span has been... your plan would exacerbate that issue IMO
Do not put all of the NE teams and CA teams in teh same divisions. You want the major media hubs to cover more than two divisions.

i know, every scenario i came up with you are left with at least one very "meh" division that you know would get very little coverage. mainly i was thinking how cool it would be to see the major population centers in the northeast, california, and great lakes in the same division and the rivalries that would create.
