Grand Budapest Hotel

Just watched it for the first time today and had no idea what I'd been missing. Honestly, I can't think of a more pleasantly surprising and genuinely enjoyable movie I've seen in a while. I don't think it's in my top 10, but still a really good movie. How does the board feel about it?

Yeah, Grand Budapest Hotel is one of my few favorite Wes Anderson movies. I'm not sure I was 'pleasantly surprised'. W. Anderson isn't my favorite director, but he is certainly proven so it was everything I expected.
Do you mean your top 10 movies of all time? If so, geez you must have freaking loved this movie.

What output has he, that is not of your pleasing?

I meant it's one of my 3 favorite of his movies. I really don't dislike any of his movies. I guess my least favorite is The Darjeeling Limited but I didn't hate it or anything.

Yep, seen this about 6 times, enjoy it every time. Wes Anderson is a good man. And Ralph Fiennes pleasantly surprises. Funny knowing he was Lord Voldemort in Harry Potter.

It kind of loses its way in the third act, but I absolutely love it. It's become my favorite Wes Anderson film.

Anderson on roids. Won my meaningless best picture Oscar.

If you like that type of movie and humor, it's quite awesome. Some people just can't get it.

Absolutely love this movie. Right behind Life Aquatic for favorite Anderson movie.

I agree. That said, I´m surprised how many on here aren´t high on Life Aquatic. Call me quirky or weird, but I absolutely love that movie.

It's got to be the most Wes Andersony of all the Wes Anderson movies. Plus it has Bill Murray as the strong lead, never a bad thing. But for some reason I would probably rank it right at 6th out of the I believe 8 he has directed. I think he is getting better, his last 3 movies (Fantastic Mr. Fox - Moonrise Kingdom - GBH) are probably 3 of my favorite 4 of his, throw in Royal Tenenbaums somewhere in there.

I thought it was great. I still like Moonrise Kingdom more though.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, maybe my favorite of 2014.
Moonrise Kingdom was very good as well. For some reason Life Aquatic didn't really work for me, nor did Djarling.
The best Wes Anderson IMO is Rushmore, but I'd put Grand Budapest very close behind. And then probably Bottle Rocket and Moonrise Kingdom in a tie for #3.

I really liked GBH, but Moonrise Kingdom to me is an absolutely perfect film. Absolutely love it.
Wes has really grown as a director.

But Wes is probably my favorite, and he casts some of my favorite actors (Schwartzman, Murray, Stiller, the Wilsons, etc.). So my list can be skewed from others.

I felt the exact same way when I saw it the first time. It's just as enjoyable (if not more so as you pick u more) on re-watch.
