Why does it need to be painted? Is the clear delaminating?
If it just needs light sanding, then anywhere from $350 to $700 depending if you want quality product used on it or the cheapest possible.

I will never repaint an automobile. I'll purchase a new or lightly used one.

No dents. Clear coat peeled a good bit. One small area with a little surface rust. Nothing too major.
Thanks.
Thanks.

If you're in Baton Rouge and just want a decent cheap job, try Bruno at Burbank Body Shop or Shay's on Choctaw near Monterrey.
If you want quality, try Gordon & Sandifer or Cavin's.
If you want really cheap, Maaco just opened a shop in Prairieville.

He's not going to get that much sanded, primed, and painted for $350. There's a lot of hours in a job like that including sanding down the peeling clear coat, priming it, then wet sanding it just to get to the paint stage.

It can be done.
The cheaper shops use lower line paint (Omni, Limco, Shopline, Nason), so they're less than $100 in liquid ($30 for primer, $30 for QT. of paint, $40 for QT of clear). They also employ cheap labor to do the sanding, taping, etc. for $10-12 per hour. The shop would still make $200+ on a 4-5 hour job. We're not talking high quality work or running the job through insurance.

Hood $300
Roof $300
Total $600
That's what a reputable shop should charge you

I would say about $3k cause they have to blend it in with the other paint them clear it.

You can expect to pay anywhere from $1-$1,000,000, that doesn't mean you won't get charged somewhere in the middle

coming out looking good and staying looking good are two different things. Not saying friend didn't get a good job, just that cheap clear coat doesn't last like the better stuff.

I called one of the best shops in new Orleans a while back asking about painting my hood. IIRC, just that was around $1200. Whole truck was $6500.
I can't remember what specifically he told me, but either the paint or clear was like $200/gal. Keep in mind that is one of the best shops in a big city. To get it done cheaply and looking like shite, you'd probably be around $150 for the hood and $250 for the roof. The trade off is that is will not look good or match, and most probably won't hold up longer than a year or two.
Imho, Cavin's does the best job in BR and a lot of people know it

They charged me I think $1200 to repaint the passenger side doors and maybe the passenger side of the bed too. It looks okay from far, but if you look closely you can still see the outline of the scratches they were supposed to be repairing. There is also some peeling paint (I guess the old coat?) around the door jambs and sills. Not a terrible job, but not great either IMO.

They shouldn't use much more than 20 ounces to put 2-3 coats of clear on a truck hood.

Prob gonna be hard to match, I just got my whole Honda painted @ Maaco in PVille. They have a 50% off mid level special right now $350 instead of $700. It blends the clearcoat in with paint at this level ($199/$700/$1200). I'm very happy with the way my Accord turned out. Hood was completely peeled, they also did body work on 3 spots.
