90 is a BIG detour to laffy from n.o. I would take my chances on 10

24 minutes according to Google maps. Well worth it IMO.

90 is three hours flat. Pretty drive. But you will hit the Broussard traffic jam at that time. If you are headed to La Triomphe or Youngsville, 90 no question. If you are headed to the 'Cro or Scott or Duson, I'd take 10.

Download INRIX. Check it before you leave. Then check it once you get past MRB as there are frequent problems at Grosse Tete. You can bypass those at Lobdell exit to the Rosedale Road, which parallels 10.

Check it again before you hit the Basin Bridge. If Whiskey Bay is shut down, which happens, scoot up to 190 then west to Opelousas then down to Lafayette.

It's about 20 more miles, so ask yourself, what are the chances I'll be slowed down for 20 minutes between the MRB and the Basin. I'd be going 90.
