Nope but the most common failure on GM dod engines is the mechanism that drops out the cylinders getting gunked up with carbon and crud from oil so I change it frequently to prevent it.

What kind of oil was being used? GM's DEXOS spec is very stringent and requires high detergency in the oil. Carbon and sludge would not be an issue with any oil that meets that spec.
