in suit and tie and was repping his investments and financial planning skills. He asked for my contact info..declined.. asked for his card. Wished him luck.

Ed Jones must be cracking the whip or this lad was hustling his arse off.

Is this door to door shtick common? First for me.

Yep. I looked at working there because the model is pretty cool. Own boss, have their resources, but yes, they expect you to walk door to door for up to two years.

I don't listen to door to door sales people so I didn't think I would fit that part of their model. Personally I find it old fashioned in a sector that relies on advanced tech. Doesn't make sense.

Desperate times, desperate measures.

They have to catch someone off guard to convince them their commissions and fees are justified.

Nothing creepier than door to door salesmen...I don't care what you're selling, I ain't buying.

I know a guy that worked there years ago. He said that door to door thing gave him good experience recognizing who has money and who doesn't.

New car, big house = waste of time
Old car, modest house = extra money to invest

When we bought our house about 2 years ago, the new rep from Gonzales knocked on our door during the day. My wife was off that day. She was 29 at the time, but she looks younger than that. He simply handed her a brochure and a business card and said "give these to your parents for me." She did not want to talk to him so she played along and closed the door.

I know a rep who was a used car salesman before he got that job. He does a good job (He is somewhere else now) but was hired do to sales experience.

And yes they all go door to door.
