Do you want them to help fund it? If so just ask. I've done it a couple of times and have had mixed responses. If yes, be prepared to build something you may not 100% like.
If no, build what you want in any style and/or material.

No fence there now, I assume? Check setbacks (if any) and covenants (if any).
