If this guy is so extremely corrupt, why did it take so long to oust him? Didn't owners and the various leagues have some sort of leverage to get him out without the need for a government's action?
quote:
In FIFA, all the money and votes are split evenly no matter the size of a country. All of the small, poor countries had no reason to get rid of him because things worked out better for them with him in power. There are a lot more shite countries than big countries, so the votes always went his way.
This. The professional leagues don't have a say in FIFA governance. So the owners of clubs can hate him but do nothing about it. The FIFA president is elected by a popular vote of the FIFA member nations (209ish). Basically, all Blatter needs is a simple majority to win re-election, which he can get just by pandering to the shitty Caribbean countries, Africa and Asia. Hell, in some election years the man ran unopposed because everyone knows that a run against him was pointless.
If you really want to know about Blatter, I recommend trying to find the E:60 report by Jeremy Schapp on Ballter that aired a few weeks back. It's a real eye-opener IMO.
