Do y'all think Bregman can stay at short or should he be moved to 2B?
He is a terrific shortstop. The scouting reports on his defense there continue to be stubborn, outdated garbage. He has been an absolute star in the field.
I think Bregman can play SS, 3B or 2B without any problem. He could adjust to what's best for Correa long-term.
All of that said, I prefer Swanson because I think he has just a bit more upside as a hitter. But Bregman knows how to battle and make contact at the plate. Either would improve our 3 true outcomes profile on the big club.

You should not waste a top five pick on someone like this. Lunhow will have pulled off the trifecta of high Round shitty picks if he takes bregman.
I would take Swanson over him because the ceiling on him seems higher. Explain why you think Bregman isn't a top 5 pick though?

I want Rodgers and Tucker

Low ceiling. He is not going to hit for power. You have to get impact bats that high if you take position players.
Posted on 5/29/15 at 9:26 am to Tiger Ryno
There aren't exactly a ton of impact power bats in this draft. And I think we could use a guy like Swanson or Bregman in our lineup who profiles as someone who consistently makes contact and is a 290-300 type hitter, and move away from the three true outcomes lineup we have as jwho said

He makes excellent contact and can drive balls to the gap. He may not crush it over the fence but watching the Astros lineup this year, we can use some high contact hitters.

So if you knew you were getting Dustin Pedroia 2.0, you wouldn't take him 5th overall in a draft lacking star power at the top?

I'm not talking about swanson. Swanson has way higher ceiling offensively and if he is there at two we should and probably will take him. Bergman is not in his class

Are you sure he will become pedrioa? I'm not.I think that is his ceiling. We have a system stacked with solid players. I think at this point you go for high upside star potential
They did that with Correa .

Here's how I see it, if we feel we can't get Fulmer at five and we're high on him then we take him at 2 then get Bregman at 5 because Swanson won't be there.

Yes

Yes, I am. He is a bigger, better athlete than Pedroia with a comparable profile. And the thing about him is, he can put his bat consistently on tough pitches. I know he will hit in the big leagues.
Bregman has a high baseball IQ and works his arse off. He is really all about baseball. But that doesn't mean he is an overachiever. It does mean he will max out his ability though.
But we are sorely lacking when it comes to guys who will likely play in the big leagues at SS and 3B in the system.

I like it, too. But I doubt Luhnow does it. I am almost positive one of the picks will be a high schooler like Tucker who they can underslot.
One other point, which Ryno will like. It looks like shortstop depth in this draft is pretty good. We have enough top 100 picks to snag a pretty good one after the top 5.

And overall this draft just kind of profiles like our system- full of solid players but no elite talent. I think Fulmer has the type of arm where he could be an elite rotation guy, which is why I want him, but overall that's just how it is and you can't change that. And we shouldn't reach for high potential just because.

fair enough...you never know for sure at this point but by nearly all accounts Rodgers projects as a 3 hole hitter with major pop at either ss or 3b
Posted on 5/29/15 at 9:42 am to Tiger Ryno
If Rodgers were as good as initial reports said, he'd be a lock for 1.1 over a college guy at the same position.
Posted on 5/29/15 at 9:42 am to Tiger Ryno
Bregman not in Swanson's class?
Swanson will be drafted ahead of him, but c'mon saying he isn't in his class is ridiculous. Swanson's offensive numbers aren't significantly better than Bregman's this season and Bregman's are better for their collegiate career.

From videos I've watched and reports I've read, I agree that Rodgers seems to be the overall most talented player. I just don't know if the Astros have the patience to wait for another 18 year old to go through the system.
