I didn't know if this should go here or on the TB, so I'll start it here
This is a sneakily awesome idea..

Dolmio has launched a new campaign to reclaim family dinnertime from technology, with help from agencies Clemenger BBDO Sydney, Pollen, Starcom and Ogilvy PR. They developed a Pepper Hacker that lets parents turn off Wi-Fi and mobile apps simply by cracking pepper with one twist.

Or, you know, their shitty parents can say something along the lines of "put that phone away" or "no using those things at dinnertime".
That method is free and not lazy.

Or just make your kids put up the phone.

Great idea.
Sometimes our group of friends agrees to put our phones face down on the dinner table at a restaurant. If you flip it over to look at it, you buy a round of drinks. Rarely do people forget so no phones are used.
I love when people actually pay attention to the people they are with as opposed to checking instagram.
ETA:
Parents should just tell kids not to do that at home though.

on a related note, i stopped by my son's high school today (finals week) to speak to one of his teachers.
i went into the 'lab' where they were having their final exam & about half the students were playing a FPS on the iMacs
i dont get it. shite hell is this how all schools are now?

That was the original suggestion by someone and none of us can afford that so it was minimized to just a round

Kind of related, but in college we had a professor that had a "phone basket". When you walked in you had to put your phone in the basket. If you lied about not having your phone and get caught, you leave the class and miss the lecture (which was pretty huge).
Apparently the teacher got a hand slap from the school later on because it was against policy to confiscate personal items or something.

all that would do is have kids leaving the dinner table all together and probably the house to get digital service
