Not sure a 2-1 series doesn't get us the #1.
But the Ducks are up 2-1 in the 5th so a 1-2 finish for UCLA vs the unranked Quacks may seal the deal.

This is one of the great fallacies that causes statistical errors or errors in pseudo-statistical thinking. Just because it's happened before has no predictive value over whether it happens this time, unless there is a logical, empiracal reason to make it so.
The most likely reason the Number One Seed has seldom won it is because there are eight fairly equal teams that arrive in Omaha, each with about a 12.5% chance of winning it all. The fact that any particular seed has won it only once is not surprising.
