It's a show about a black drug gang going toe-to-toe with a largely black police department in Baltimore (and ultimately the docks/unions, political system, school system and media get involved - 1 season at a time). The acting is stunning for the day and it (along with The Sopranos) heralded the new age of cable television drama - these shows are the children and grandchildren of Hill Street Blues, St. Elsewhere and, to a lesser extent, NYPD Blue.
