How did he escalate it? He told Harper to get back into the box. Or are you talking about Williams and suggesting he should ignore a manager yelling at him?

Harper was back in the box ready to go and the umpire took his mask off and started yelling at the dugout. That was escalation. He had no intention of running the skipper at that point so why did he stop the game and react the way he did? If he immediately ran Williams after taking his mask off, the whole issue is done. Williams would have run out and thrown his tantrum and that would have been that.

That was certainly an option. On that realistically would've prevented the whole situation. Or he could've just tossed Matt, instead he gave us a show.
