The idea is that any ball hit on the ground somewhere other than pitcher or rocked at 1/3 and the run scores. If you don't run on contact (actually running on down angle, see ball on ground and go) then you have to stay until the ball is in the outfield.
If you hesitate for 1/2 a second any ground ball in the infield and you are getting thrown out

I have seen LSU take off too many times with grounders to third or first. That is my concern. The same goes with the middle infielders playing in.

Make the other team make a play which can sometimes be a difficult play
