No sooner did I ask questions than they get answered.
So the Doc, Sheriff & Nurse are/were all in on this from the earliest days? I wonder how they all tie together (especially the Sheriff since he didn't seem to have any medical experience).
We know the Abbies were around by 2095 (the date on the coin). I think that's a good approximate time to use for when they showed up (maybe go back another 50 years or so to give them time to grow their numbers enough to become an extinction-level threat). I'm willing to bet ol Doc is the one that created them in the first place.
We know there are lots more people in hibernation but they only seem to come out to keep the population at a certain level. Why? Why aren't they pushing to expand the boundaries of the WP project so they can bring out more people and work to reclaim the Earth?
They have a helicopter and firearms, why aren't they hunting the Abbies that come near the site?
What kind of precautions are in place in case an Abbie gets in?

I don't see how the date of the coin indicates when the abbies appeared. I thought the only purpose for the coin was to prove that the people in Wayward Pines were at a time in the future well after 2095.

This is what I'm thinking. I don't think the guy figured out that humans would devolve and wipe out the rest of the humans. I think he and the government created them to "thin the herd" so to speak, and create a better society.
