Complaint filed about the amount of arrests (of blacks) in Jefferson Parish schools.

I have no doubt that there are a lot of legit arrests going on but it seems they're also throwing students in jail for minor misbehaviors under a vague statute that includes "interference with an educational facility".
Nola.com and the SPLC makes it racial.
Federal complaint filed..

A 15-year-old boy was arrested at school for throwing Skittles candy at another child on the school bus. Though the bus driver told the children to separate before dropping everyone home, the boy was arrested after the other child's parent showed up at school the next day to demand the boy's suspension or punishment. Soon, a deputy handcuffed the boy in front of his class and sent him to the juvenile detention center. Upon his release six days later, a judge remarked, "Am I to get this right: Are we really here about Skittles?"

A 10-year-old autistic girl began climbing on classroom desks and knocking over chairs March 25, then climbed out of a classroom window and up a tree. When the Kenner Police Department arrived, one officer reportedly dragged her by the ankles. The child was later handcuffed face down on the ground, with an officer's knee in her back, the complaint said. After the incident, school officials reportedly told the family that the child could not return to school until she was medicated, which is against federal law.

Didn't really notice anything unusual lately

A girl at a JP high school got a statutory rape charge, she was 18, he was 16. No sex, he was 'performing a sex act on her'. I thought it was crazy they called the cops and made a local news story over it. I know people got caught in the gym and band room in my day. No police...
I think schools are going to police for things that in the past would of been handled in house.

Pretty sure thats legal in Louisiana? 17 is the age of consent, but it still legal to have sex with someone under the age of consent if you are no more than 2 years older.

EBR at zero is an absolute lie.

I think that was a 17 year old girl and a 14 year old boy. Still lame though.

Aren't cops trained to do this while restraining someone? Yeah, it sounds harsh, but it helps to immobilize someone. Of course the officer should have used discretion when handling a kid.

Anyone thinking this is odd should go spend a day as a substitute or monitoring a class in Jefferson Parish (and where the hell is Orleans? They must just arrest them after school). As the teachers can neither beat nor summarily execute some of these students, police intervention is necessary.

Some (not me) will turn this into a class warfare argument, because the vast majority of catholic schools will just deal with this kind of shite in house rather than calling the police.

JP PD is a shite show. Remember that six month operation to bring down 20 pot heads in Grand Isle.

"A person between the ages of 13 and 15 can consent to have sex with someone who is up to 3 years older than them, but a person between the ages of 15 and 17 may consent to sex only if the other person is 2 years older or less."
Still legal I think, but regardless of whether it's legal or not, arresting 2 teenagers for having sex with each other is lame as shite.

Discipline problems are usually related to cognitive ability so the Catholic Schools are not even in the same universe as the public schools. The kids are disciplined and if they are not the threat of going to a public school or the fury of the parents for blowing their money will fix things.

A lot of truth to this. The examples listed should have been handled better, but a lot of these kids (and parents) elevate things into a police matter.

To be fair, as a product of NOLA all boy catholic schools from 5th-12th grade, I saw far worse than throwing skittles, and no police arrived.
You're right though, the threat of getting expelled from catholic school and ending up in public school usually knocks sense into both parents and students.

Good! Some kids want to make something of their lives and don't need these shitbird thug pieces of shite ruining it for them

JPSO is a complete cluster and rampant with thugs wearing a badge. I saw it when I was a cop and worked with some of them and things like this make it still painfully obvious. They all posses the sheriff's mentality that cops are never wrong and throw fits when they don't get their way. It's a joke of a SO.

In just about any middle school to high school level.

I would be curious if this is crime where the state/society is the victim in LA or is it a specific victim crime. IE, does an individual victim petition a magistrate to issue a warrant (in the case of juveniles a pick up order in AL)
quote:
A 15-year-old boy was arrested at school for throwing Skittles candy at another child
Harassment here in AL, and it is a specific victim crime where that victim or their guardian signs the warrant/pick up order. This is outside of the school system. Purely judicial.

Was this by the deputies own doing or by the warrant/pick up order signed by a magistrate?

Upon his release six days later,
No 48 hour hearing? Wow.
quote:
a judge remarked, "Am I to get this right: Are we really here about Skittles?"
Or harassment or the other cited statute regarding interference with an education facility.
So many questions.
This gets down to schools/parents wanting cops in schools for active shooter incidents. When that hysteria wears off people (read parents, school officials, LE officials) want to justify the cop in the school with STATS STATS STATS. This is what you get. Discipline issues become criminal/juvenile issues. Yeah.

I spent some time in a NOLA all boy catholic school as well and in those more rare incidents compared to the public schools today, if a kid was doing some stupid shite measured physical violence would be applied, I have a feeling it is sort of similar today, but Public School teachers are reluctant to give a high five or tap on the shoulder without the threat of law suit or getting fired.
