Putin has been wanting to "get the band back together" (ie: USSR) for a long time now. With the Baltics being a part of NATO, I don't see him going after them (but beefing up your military along those borders does make for a nice distraction).
The Russian economy is in freefall, my bet is that Putin is looking for cash. He's going to hold the EC's feet to the fire with oil & gas prices (Ukraine), but I believe he has plans for the Middle East (via his friends in Iran and Syria) as well.
I really don't think he'll go after the Baltics but my Aunt and Uncle are planning on moving back from Lithuania because it's getting a little too tense there for them.
