I hit a horde of Iron so I wanted to do that, and replace the tools I borrowed from this mine near me.
So these big giant castles are generated, those aren't your houses?
I don't think I found but one players house so far.
I haven't explored much, spent four hours building tunnels yesterday.

If you haven't done so yet, you need to get to ore doubling asap. Build a survivalist generator or two and a sag mill. It will crush the ores into 2x as much. Make sure you try to keep flint in the sag mill to reduce power and decrease power use. You can grind gravel for flint. You can use the pulverizer from Thermal, but I like the config options on the enderio machines. An alloy smelter would be a good investment as well
