Everyone keeps trying to tie this to the Favre/Rodgers scenario, but there is a huge difference between their situation and the Saints' with Brees.

Favre simply was non-committal and consistently contemplating retirement right when Rodgers fell in their laps. He was a security blanket in regards to Favre. They lucked out that the timing worked, but it's not like the same thing is present with Brees.

That's true but if we can get Petty or Grayson with one of our 3rds I would be ok with that. I don't know if either will be there or not though. I definitely wouldn't take either in the first.

Money, age, and performance. Brees may not be "done" but his time here could be winding down

We are already seeing how having all your money tied up in an aging QB can limit addressing needs at other positions

This is a do or die year. If down the line you can trade Brees for assets and have a QB waiting in teh wings, the better off we will be.
