I've heard from a couple of people I know in the NFL personnel business that the police referring to Collins as "A person of interest, and not a suspect, "Yet" is killing his value. If Collins had 100% not even the slightest involvement in this then I feel bad for him, just terrible timing.

It looks like police are trying to determine two things:

1 who is the father of the child. If nothing else for custodial reasons.

2 does La el know anything about her life. Was she dating anyone? Fighting with anyone? Problems with the father? Etc.

This is all very standard investigative procedure.

This alone does not seem to implicate la el.

This is a sad situation.

What's the latest on this story? OP can you edit the original post to contain all pertinent info? Don't feel like reading 26 pages.

Regardless LC shouldn't be at the draft and I can't imagine why he'd want to be at this point. The paternity of the child isn't as important to the case as is whether or not LC thinks he could be the father. The detectives will want to question him about all contact (especially sexual) he's had with the victim during the last year up until and especially last Friday night. An alibi is also important but doesn't necessarily clear him just as a negative paternity test wouldn't clear him. It's all about whether he believes or it's even at all possible that he could be the father of the child.

Once the detectives get all the info they need and they can crosscheck that with information they've compiled since the murder then and only then would a paternity test be used to corroborate LC's statement. They won't get him to come in and take a paternity test real quick, go to Chicago and then come back to make his statement after the result is known. The test must be after the full statement.

If he's the father and he says there was no way he could be then has a big problem. If he's not the father but he said he could be the father he could still have a big problem. If he says he couldn't be the father and the test proves he isn't and his alibi checks out then he's probably in the clear. This last result could have happened within the last 3 days if all parties were willing participants. It wasn't entirely necessary for LC to be present at the draft given the situation and it also wasn't necessary for news to get out concerning the police's request to interview LC. UNLESS, they tried numerous times and their efforts were delayed by LC, his agent or attorney due to the offortunate timing of the incident and the NFL draft. That's no excuse when it comes to a murder investigation and it's always best to be as cooperative as possible for the victim and yourself or else you will look like you have something to hide.

And no, it wouldn't be out of the ordinary to read a story about a person answering the door, then having an altercation with a person and then getting shot and killed. If it's a fact that the altercation had to do with borrowing a car that makes it a little less ordinary. That the victim was a woman makes it even less ordinary and that it was a pregnant woman (obviously pregnant enough that she should have looked pregnant) makes it much less ordinary (Don't have stats on this but I certainly hope it's unusual). That police have no suspects at this point isn't unusual but it doesn't help LC's situation at all. I'll be surprised if it gets turns out to be random.

Yes, the timing is terrible for LC, so terrible, it almost seems deliberately terrible and ultimately (hopefully) it may prove unfair to LC but I think both sides could have handled the situation better.
