It could be your lack of hockey knowledge that helps the film. You're far less likely to nitpick the sports action in a sport you don't intuitively know like basketball or football. I think baseball still makes the best movies.
I remember watching Remember the Titans for the first time and was dumb founded at the one scene where it's the last play of the championship game and the Titans were at their own 20. The opposing coach looks at the Titans formation and yells to his defense "WATCH THE DEEP PASS!"
I sat there thinking, no shite sherlock.

That Ed Henry was supposedly a genius but didn't know to take a knee was bad enough movie football for me.
