It's all about routine for somebody who finally becomes commited to really changing their body shape, especially at an older age. That's where I am (I am 44)as I started a similar routine 2 weeks ago. I looked at his eating routine and immediately recognized what his mindset is because I ate and exercised almost identically when I was 33. Went from 240 to 190 in four months.

Maintained it pretty good until age 40 when I got cancer. Beat it back but it relapsed 8 months later and grew so rapidly before treatments began that it destroyed my right leg. The residual nerve damage from the tumor, coupled with the "go for broke" intense chemo/radiation and subsequent stem cell transplant wrecked my body pretty good. I can't run due to the leg but I can bike or anything elsenot requiring balance and strength at the same time. And the residual daily pain from all the nerve damage has just kept me depressed enough to not want to muster up the will to work out and eat healthy.

I know myself and if I get commited and come up with a plan of how I will achieve my goal of getting back in shape......a routine leaning more obsessive and strict to a ultra healthy diet is what I require. The easiest way is to commit to certain foods and nutrition at the same time every day. I know a lot of people don't have to do this but for those who can easily get off the rails.....this routine is a must for success. You start thinking about the pros/cons of every calorie that you eat. Within a couple of weeks, my body starts to crave things that I would have skipped in favor of the hamburger before.....like a salad with balsamic vinegar, or a handful of almonds, or a banana.....and water. Lots of water. After two weeks, I find myself not even thinking about the bad stuff anymore.

The body really is amazing. You say you could never eat that way and I know what you mean. Believe me, I have been a foodie all my life and can put away some food. But once your body gets used to eating the small healthy meals, your mind and body accept and endorse it so much that you no longer desire the heavy stuff.

***** also, a crazy side effect from my diet. I have gone years without remembering a dream but have recalled, pretty vividly, every dream for about 10 straight nights. Anybody know the science on that?

I'm currently reading this book and the author suggests that certain nutrient deficiencies can lead to an inability to recall dreams. When the nutrient deficiencies are corrected, dream recall returns.

Nutrient Power

Dick Leverage...glad you felt comfortable enough to open up about your cancer. Sounds like you've been thru a LOT and in no way can most of us understand your experience.

Therefore, I wish you and your fitness goals the very best.
