Why should some series have an extra day to play when one game can make a difference in the standings?

Why should some series start on Thursday nights? Isn't that a little unfair too?

If you're going to make a team play Thursday night, in case of a wash-out, they should be able to play Sunday when they have no other obligations.

Of course I think a normal Fri-Sun series should be able to go into Monday but you know we have to watch out for the "student athlete" after all.

So make me them play late into Thursday night when they have class the next day?

I know you were being sarcastic. Just pointing out the hypocrisy of the rule.

My point is what if one team misses out on the SEC title, Hoover berth, etc by 1/2 game because one team started on Thursday and had an extra day to play when another one didn't. That's why the rule is in place.

Maybe the umpires have travel plans? They can leave as far as I'm concerned. At least I know LSU will wait as long as possible unlike Georgia last week.

What would be a good reason for travel curfew to apply on a series ending Saturday game?

For travel reasons. I'm not being specific to aTm, because I don't know the answers to these questions, but did the team fly or drive? Do they have a flight scheduled for late tonight, or early tomorrow. If they were planning on flying home or driving home tonight, would another night hotel stay cause a hardship (room availability or cost)? My guess is that if a team was planning on driving home on Sunday, or if flight arrangements could be shuffled for Sunday, then the SEC would grant the waiver. It's easier to default the rules to be the same on Saturday as Sunday and grant waivers if the visiting team's travel can accommodate.

I completely get that. I just think it's ridiculous. If they can force a team to play on Thursday night when they have one less day of rest and have class the next day, then series that start on Friday should be able to play on Monday, and as such series that start Thursday should be able to play Sunday.

Yeah the logic of travel curfew is thrown out the window with a series that starts on a Thursday with class on Friday.

I think travel curfew is stupid period, but if they could just get a waiver to start the game at 6 or 7 today...on a Saturday...the normal start time for Saturday games, we could probably get the game in. But nope travel curfew since they have to be in class on Sunday.

What's funny is that our final game of the season at South Carolina (on a Saturday) doesn't start until 7:00 because of TV

Well now I'm doubly pissed that this game probably won't get played.

If this was a normal fri-sun series this game could get pushed back to 7 and get played. Tomorro will be good weather and then all 3 would have gotten played. Getting pushed to Thursday and travel curfew on a Saturday will prevent us from playing all 3.

Someone asked "what possible reason could they have" -- I provided one. I didn't say it was why they did it but honestly guys, I'm sure there's a reason and it's not to just mess with you. Find out the reason before you go off on everybody
