By the time this thread ends you're going to have a LONG list because there are a LOT of good single stack semi-auto 9mm's for concealed carry. Most everyone's going to recommend the ss 9 they use and that's only natural. Having said that, the "best" one will be determined by YOU and your criteria. A lot of fine candidates have been mentioned already, but a few good 9mm single stacks that have not been mentioned that are worthy of your consideration include: Beretta Nano, Kimber Solo, Walther PPS and Kahw CW9. Although I don't have a CW9, I have a CW45 and it has an active role in my cc rotation. You need to sit down, decide what YOUR criteria are and eliminate some contenders. No one here can tell you what your criteria are. For example, do you want an external safety lever? Do you prefer a DAO trigger (like the Kahrs and LC-9) or a striker trigger? Do you want an adjustable backstrap? You get the idea. In addition, many, but not all, of the above guns are small enough to be comfortably carried in pants pockets. This is how I usually carry my Ket-Tec PF9 during the spring and summer. Although I like the 1911 platform (heck, I cc a Commander for 20 hours yesterday), I don't like the Sig 938 for pocket carry. I think the 1911 should be carried cocked and locked. Carried this way, I worry the external hammer on the 938 might snag on the draw; plus the hammer being cocked looks like it would make a nice place for lint to get down into the frame.
