Sounds like kidneys or congestive heart failure.

Has he been extra snuggly lately?

Sounds like the attending DVM is offering a good option with observing him over night. Rads should tell you if he has ate something that has caused a GI blockage and blood work will help with toxicology. I'd observe over night and wait till morning.

Prayers to you and your wife. Hope you find some comfort in whatever decision you make.

No. He hasn't been any different at all till 6 days ago. At that time he stopped eating his daily meals (he would eat little , randomly) and started to just lay around all the time. That's not him. He wouldn't meet me at the door when I return from work or wherever , he would just lay there. Very lazy or lethargic and not eating too much. Those are the issues until today when he got extra lethargic and seemed to not want to open his eyes all the way.
