I'm alone on this, but I loved Thor: Dark World for precisely this reason. It made fun of the whole premise. Kat Dennings exists in the film just to keep winking to the audience and say "this is ridiculous, right?" And the final fight scene is quite literally the Scooby Doo running the doors bit.
I find Thor 2 to be a tremendously funny film. Hopefully, that was intentional. But I think it strikes the right tone for a film about Norse gods being real, only space aliens.

they basically had a character tell the audience that this movie was going to suck

As usual, we agree. I think Dark World is highly under-valued in the MCU. I loved it. Maybe not Winter Soldier Level, but certainly right there with IM and Cap 1.
The tone of T:DW was spot on.
