Not only that, but he's making stupid and careless decisions.

So, let's move on to the important questions: Who would win between Ultron and The Destroyer?
Posted on 4/28/15 at 5:50 pm to Methuselah
Ultron, duh...but the biggest question to me is how deep into the cosmic lore of Marvel are they going to go?
Posted on 4/29/15 at 6:22 am to RonBurgundy
Down to 73% with an average score of 6.9/10.

this has always been a major gripe of mine w/RT.
I have read reviews they deemed rotten that felt positive on the whole while other that I felt were mostly negative somehow were deemed fresh. I think this points to a major flaw in their system in that they don't have a rank in-between fresh and rotten. A yellow tomato that let people know the review is somewhere in the middle would really be helpful.
RT also ascribes scores to reviews without any numerical aspect to get a rotten or fresh.
I much prefer Metacritic, which is more honest in an assessment of a film from the mass of critics.

When they just gonna go ahead with this?

Metacritic always has less reviews, though. That's my biggest problem with it. Metecritic will only have about 50 reviews where as RT will have close to 300.

Well primarily they only use reviews with numerical scores for their calculation. That limits their pool. I think it's also more harsh, which is kind of a good thing.

I'm not. This is the perfect film for comic movie critical backlash.
It is filled w/characters from several movie series which means its likely several reviewers haven't seen all of the preceding films or if they have it was just once for a review when they came out. This gives many a critic the easy out for the "I don't know what's going on" line that is generally code for "I don't like this kind of thing so I didn't pay much attention to begin with" in reviewer speak.
For the critical response, this is true. People will still flock to the theater though.

My only worry about AoU is that it would use a very similar story (villain wanting to destroy/take over the world), combined with being a bridge to the next part of the Marvel Universe, therefore lack any emotional connecting from the first screen to the last. Now, Marvel movies, and specifically the team up films, are trying to move us along and expand a world, rather than tell a complex story. It's all about putting Hulk, IM, Cap, Thor and others together for a big battle with some alterations in the current mythos to move it along to the next stage.
That's it. For some people, that isn't enough, specifically for critics. Why?
It's pretty much a comic book on screen. Team of Heroes. Big Bad. battle and destruction because villain wants more power. Rinse. Repeat. This is both good and bad. I'm excited, and it will be fun, but it's hard to tell a great story that feels different every time (one reason why I've certainly read less comic books for the past few years).
However, GotG and Winter Soldier are indications that Marvel is really really good at telling smaller stories. So maybe we're supposed to just sit back and have fun in AoU, without thinking too much, and wait for the small films to tell more relevant stories and progression. "Nothing lasts forever." Critically it almost certainly won't resonate, they are worse than some of us about just relaxing for a good time, but as long as fans pack the theater for the big films, they'll find ways to make the small ones.

team up films
it doesn't matter who they're fighting
it doesn't matter why they're fighting
nothing else matters.
This team up fad is something that needs to die, and I really can't believe after the $ that the DK and DKR made, that DC felt they were losing money by not "teaming" everyone together. I will say, when I do see this movie (rental on apple tv, maybe Netflix) I won't care what rotten tomatoes said.
reviews aren't anything with a numerical value, they give shite movies good scores, occasionally I find a really good movie with a bad RT score...it just sucks. attack of the clones is one of the worst movies ever made, and it certified fresh Ultimately you need to see the movie to pass judgment

To each his own. Some people enjoy them.
Two films does not equal "a fad," fwiw.
And interconnected universes are awesome regardless of that. Telling big stories over multiple films? It certainly isn't for everyone, but we shouldn't say this needs to go away just because we may not like it.

Well, this goes back to the RT thing. I really think RT's rating has nearly 0 to do with actual film quality. It's about "x% of Critics were satisfied by this film." Or maybe better said "There's a x% chance you will like this film is you like critical opinion." (That's partly why people parading the figure as verifying a "good" movie is kind of ridiculous. Although good movies CAN have high RT scores, that's not really what the score means.) For all we know the general public is not included in the rating anyway. If you value critical opinion, than it's a good measure. My list of "valued" critics is under 10, so these scores get tipped too far outside of good favor.
I think the next iteration of the site (or maybe we geniuses can do this) is to have a site that let's you identify a list of critics and pull their reviews and scores together for YOUR personal "RT-like," rating that may actually be closer to the truth. Patent pending.

I don't know if age of uktron is bad though
I know the first one is. I hate RT mostly because anyone can be a critic and contribute to the score and there are people who give a review with the sole intent of bucking the trend. You can tell by the lack of substance but there's no calculation for that. Oh everyone likes the avengers, well I'll be the cool nerd and "eviscerate" it.

You probably at least have a good idea based on these statements. These movies may not be for you, that's all.

only one thing about ultron makes me think i'll hate it
disposable robots...haven't I been through enough with the fricking robots
but otherwise I don't know anything about anything. winter soldier was good, dark thor had some moments before they were ruined by stupid gags and stupid chicks. There was this buzzfeed article my wife showed me with pictures taken during production on famous movies (and the filming of the mgm lion) and it was all movie magic, then it was the avengers standing in front of a green screen and two cars on the set.
I don't think that they're not for me, I just think these marvel movies mostly suck
ed Norton hulk was kewl (see I'm not hard to please)
iron man 1
winter soldier
parts of thor 2
and then yes, I thought everything else was a turd. I remember seeing iron man 2 in theaters. I thought it was so bad.

Hopefully the 3rd/4th Avengers movie won't have the same "army of soldier drones" fight scenes as the first two. I understand that they need something for Hawkeye and Black Canary to do, but it already seems repetitive.
