Yup.

ETA: I read that wrong. I would renounce whatever they asked me to to stay alive.

If it only saves my life, I hope I would not renounce. It is hard to say until faced. Human weakness is a miserable thing. Even Peter who walked with Christ faltered in the face of his mortality.

Agree.

If it is the difference in others living or dying, I probably do, simply to save them. Because my words and my heart and mind are two different things. I am renouncing, but only out of love for others.

Also the right thing to do--in that case, you would be martyring others for your own beliefs.

This is a joke, right? What sane person wouldn't say whatever it took to not be violently beheaded.

Who's to say you won't? your not exactly dealing with upstanding people here. Even if your not someone of faith, are you going down without some type of resistance? What a shitty way to die

I would hold stay faithful, but I'm not an idiot. I know they would kill me regardless of my answer.

Kind of a dick move for God to allow you to be put in that position and then punish you if you don't answer correctly.

so.....isis comes to take your life because of your faith. can you honestly say that you wouldn't renounce your faith to stay alive? I wonder how many people would stay "faithful" and get beheaded.

will never renounce Christ. We are all going to die, and if I do i cant think of a better way to do it than in the name of Jesus!

If you really are of the Christian faith I would imagine that God gives you the courage in those moments to stand by your faith....and the courage and peace in those moments up to your death.

I would really love to hear God speak. I know a bunch of people say that they talk to him all the time. however, when I ask them what his voice sounds like, no one can ever tell me.

I don't see how the answer would change. ISIS doesn't get its brand recognition because they let people go. They want to instill fear. If they torture you, they are going to kill you. It's just what they do. They can't be reasoned with. If you renounce your faith, it only proves to them that you are an infidel who belongs to a false faith and that you are worthy of being killed.

Now, back to my first answer. My only reservation and concern is that I wouldn't renounce my faith BECAUSE I know I'm going to die, not because I truly put my God first. That's a problem for me. I want to be true, not to give the safest answer. It reminds me of Blaise Pascal's "The Gamble".

Might not do any good. When the terrorists attacked the Kenyan university, they demanded that each person recite a quote from the Koran. They very likely killed some Muslims who weren't "good enough" Muslims.

Heck, if a Christian version of Isis held a gum to my face I might be too nervous to come up with a Bible quote--and it would be even harder to do it without making a minor mistake somewhere.

I don't mind discussing it at all. I don't get upset over stuff like this. Repost it if you like. You know I love you regardless.
