I would do this if i knew anything about the value of what I'm looking at. However, I'm not a junk expert.

Back in 2000, after a good friend of mine passed, I would go help his parents out with PC and eBay issues since it was beyond them and they made a lot of money before others really started doing it. I remember them selling the glass wire insulators that used to be old electrical poles for some serious coin but it had to have certain numbers on it otherwise it was junk.

They bought books and really studied stuff. Like Antique said, the internet has changed that as it's easy to look stuff up from your phone.

His parents gave me a bunch of rare cards for all the help I gave them including a Pistol Pete rookie in mint condition.

Start out like I did 12 years ago, pick a couple areas (mine were toys, LSU, and strange items).

Stick to these, bring $20 with you and never pay more than $5 for an item. Get home, list on Ebay, and bank roll the profit. You may only make $10-$20 an item, and even buy shite that is worthless, but you only paid $1 for it, throw it away. Learn from your mistakes.

While you are searching for you area of expertise, if you see something that looks interesting but it is outside your area and it is cheap enough, grab it. It is a $1.

When I first started out looking for toys and stuff, I would buy designer women's shoes and purses for next to nothing (I am a guy). I would flip them for decent money ($20-$50 each). Ladies Doc Marten boots was my go to, always made money.

Next thing you know, you have a fair amount of knowledge of what to buy or not to buy, and a nice bank roll, so you can buy the higher end things.

I once bought out an entire garage sale (or at least 80% of it). It was 100's of Estes rockets (built and unbuilt). I paid $250 and sold it for over $3500. The look on the lady's face when I said I would take it all was priceless.
